Library Instruction Sessions
Available in-person (room 827) and online (via Zoom).
You decide the objectives for the session. Sessions can be designed to:
- Support your assignment (e.g., how to find specific source types or how to identify effective search terms).
- Develop information literacy skills, such as how to find sources using library databases or Google/Google Scholar, how to critically evaluate sources and claims using lateral reading and fact-checking, how to cite sources using database tools, and how to engage with AI tools to develop focused research questions, surface assumptions or biases, explore alternative perspectives, and evaluate or challenge AI-generated responses through revision and evidence-seeking.
You decide the session length (typically from one to two hours).
- 1-hour sessions include hands-on practice searching, evaluating, or citing sources.
- 1½- to 2-hour sessions include time for students to begin their research with librarian assistance.
Please note: Sessions must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance to give librarians time to prepare specialized materials. In some cases, a general orientation to library services or sources may be arranged sooner, but this is not guaranteed. Email the instruction librarian to see if earlier arrangements can be made.

- Workshops are filled with robust content that can provide your students with the information literacy skills they need to complete their research assignments. Each of these workshops can be completed in around 1 hour. They are self-enrolled, and students receive a certificate of completion when they pass with a score of 80% or higher. Better yet, we score the workshops, so that’s one task off your to-do list.
- We created Canvas assignment pages for each workshop that we can share with you. You can simply import the page into your Canvas course to use as a regular or extra credit assignment. Students receive certificates of completion they can upload to the assignment in your Canvas course.
