Fullerton College Library

What if I have to return a book while the library is closed due to COVID-19?

Hang on to your books until normal campus operations are resumed. If you have library books due during this time please do not come to campus to return them. The library will forgive all fines accrued on books due during this uncertain time. Please ignore any overdue notices you receive, as our system sends those out automatically. After campus officially reopens you will have up to 2 weeks to return your books.

For more information on Library Policies during the COVID-19 campus closure please see the FAQ and Policies page.

Borrowing Items

Fullerton College students and faculty may borrow resources with their current campus ID. Just present your ID with the book or resource at the Circulation Desk, located to the left of the main staircase. Students from other colleges in the North Orange County Community College District, Fullerton High School students, and residents of select North Orange County cities may also borrow library materials according to the Library Card Policies.

Missing Items

If the book that you are looking for is not on the shelf, you may request a search at the Circulation counter on the 1st floor. Staff will search for the item.

Please allow 24 hours to see if it has been located. If the item is not found, the status will be changed to “Missing” in the library’s online catalog.

Renewing Items

You may renew regular non-reserve collection items through the library catalog as long as you do it BEFORE the library closes on the due date. After the library has closed on the due date, the system will NOT allow you to renew items online. Items are late after the library closes, not after midnight. You may renew items by phone at 714-992-7039, ext. 4. However, you cannot renew reserve collection materials or study rooms.

Returning Items

You may return materials to the outside book return located to the left of the library entrance when the library is closed. Please return laptops and computer peripherals to a staff person. Do not leave laptops on the counter or put them in a return slot.

Be sure to return materials on time to avoid paying fines and fees. Overdue fines include the hours the library is closed as well as weekends and holidays.

During library open hours, items should be returned to a staff person at the Circulation or Reserve counters or you may put items in the return slots at either end of the counter. Make sure the item has dropped completely into the return bin.

Requesting Items

If the item you want in the library catalog is checked out, you may request it using the “Make a Request” link on the right-hand side of the catalog. When the other user returns the item, you will be notified by staff that it is on hold for you at the Circulation counter. Please keep your contact information current by notifying staff at the Circulation counter and at Admission and Records.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You may request an item and place a hold on it ONLY if it is already checked out. However, reserve and reference books cannot be placed on hold at any time. For books that are listed as “On Order” in the catalog, speak to a librarian at the reference desk about obtaining the book after it arrives and is processed.
