Subject Directories

A subject directory, or subject list, is a hierarchical subject tree which organizes Web documents. These are organized by humans. Web sites are assigned to a subject category such as "Entertainment," "Health," " Science," etc. Directories find fewer and often more relevant sites.

Popular Subject Directories:

Yahoo! - dir.yahoo.com
One of the first subject directories Yahoo! consists of over 2 million submitted Web pages.
Librarians' Index to the Internet - www.lii.org

INFOMINE  - infomine.ucr.edu
About 100,000 scholarly Internet sites from the librarians at the University of California.
Google - www.google.com/dirhp

"The web organized by topic into categories" includes about 1.5 million sites.
