Borrowing Books from Other Libraries

If you need books that are not available in our collection, there are other choices:

System search
From our catalog (click on the Find a Book link), you can search Cypress, Golden West and Orange Coast College Libraries. Select the System search button from our catalog and choose "All Cal West Libraries" before doing your search. With a current Fullerton College i.d., you have borrowing privileges at these libraries. You may also request that the book be sent here for you.

Cal State Fullerton
There is currently no reciprocal agreement for FC students or staff to borrow from Cal State Fullerton.

Borrow from your local public library
You can search the catalogs of many local libraries through our "Search Other Libraries" link. It is also best to call the library to determine": 1) if the item is on the shelf and available, 2) what the library's hours are, and 3) what kind of identification you need to borrow the book if you do not have a library card already.

Borrow from another public library
If you are not a resident of the city for a particular public library, you may be required to purchase a non-resident card. Fullerton Public Library, for example, charges $25 per year for a non-resident card. To use the material in the library, is always free.

Request books through Interlibrary Loan
Books and periodical articles not available in the collection of the William T. Boyce Library may be requested through Interlibrary Loan. Items that are eligible for Interlibrary loan include dissertations, musical scores and microfilm reproductions. As for periodicals, loans for these materials can be done in accordance of copyright law.

This service takes a minimum of two weeks. Request forms are available at the Reference Desk (first floor) and the Information Desk (second floor) and can also be accessed online. The loan period of these items, usually printed books, is three weeks, but you may keep any photocopies you receive.

While the library attempts to obtain the item requested for free, there might be times where you will have to pay charges. On the Interlibrary Loan form, please indicate how much you would be willing spend (Note: Photocopying books usually costs between $10 - $25).

For further information, please see the library's
Interlibrary Loan Policy.
