HOW TO CITE A LIBRARY ONLINE
SERVICE (MLA 5.9.7)

To cite an online library service
you will need to know:
1. Author(s)
2. “Title of article, in quotation marks”
3. Title of journal, magazine, or newspaper
4. Volume number and date of publication OR if no volume number is available,
date of publication, and page(s)
5. Title of online service (i.e., the database name)
6. Name of subscription service or name of company that provides the
database
7. Name of library sponsoring the site (e.g., Fullerton College Library)
8. Month Day Year you used or accessed the article
9. Database homepage or website address, also known as the URL (uniform
resource locator)
The citation is arranged:
Author(s). “Title of Article.”
Title of journal, magazine, or newspaper. Volume
number (date) OR Day Month Year of publication:
page numbers. Name of
Database or Online Service Used.
Name of company that provided service.
Name of Library Day Month Year of access
<electronic address>.
