Computers

Research Computers: There are thirty computers on the first floor of the Library near the Reference Desk with access to the Internet that may be used for research only. Two computers are dedicated to adaptive use. Priority for these terminals is for the disabled. These computers are available to users for one-hour. There is no software on these computers.

Laptops: There are eighteen laptops available for check-out at the Reserve Desk on the first floor of the library. They all include the MS Office suite.

Computer Commons: There are fifteen computers on the first floor of the Library behind the photocopy center between the Reference Collection and the TV/VCRs. These computers are expressly for research and writing. Computers include the full MS Office suite.

10-minute Online Express Computers: There are nine computers on the column countertops in the Lobby, just inside the Main Entrance of the Library. Users may access the Internet and MS Office. Computers time-out without warning after 10-minutes.

Online Catalog Computers: There are eleven computers in the Library that are completely dedicated to locating library books, periodicals, and media. Four of the computers are located in the Reference Collection on the first floor of the Library. Seven are located in Periodicals and the Book Collection areas on the second floor of the Library.

Logging on to FC Library Computers

Computer Commons and 10-minute Online Express Computers:

    • Username: Your Student ID number
    • Password: Your 6-digit birthdate (unless you have changed it in FCnet)

Laptops:

    • Boot up (turn on) the computer. At the login screen:
      • Username: library
      • Password: library

WiFi: coverage map

    • Click on a browser icon. At the Cisco login screen:
      • Username: Your Student ID number
      • Password: Your 6-digit birthdate (unless you have changed it in FCnet)

Microfilm Readers/Printers

Two microfilm readers / printers are located on the south wall next to the Archives & Special Collections Room 811A on the first floor of the Library near the Reference Desk.

Printing

  • All student computers in the library are set-up to print from the library's print system, except for laptops.
  • Laptop users may access the wireless network to send their documents as attachments through their email account, and then print from one of the 1st floor QuickPrint computers.
  • Laptop users must email or save your documents to an external drive, as all documents saved on the laptop are deleted when it is turned off.
  • Printing in the library is a cash system.The vend units connected to the Print Release computers accept U.S. quarters, dimes, nickels (no pennies),and one-dollar bills only .
  • Circulation Desk makes change for bills over $1.00, but not over $20.00.
  • Not all library computers have copies of commonly-used word processing software.
  • The campus computer labs have computers containing all software taught at the college.

QuickPrint Computers

To print from one of the library's three QuickPrint computers:

  • When using your personal external drive look for the silver cable attached to the computers.
  • Open your document(s) in any of MS Office 2007 software.
  • Print your job either to the BW letter or Colorletter printers.
  • Enter 'your name' in the blue screen and 'send to server'.

Print Release Stations

To pay for and print your job from one of the library's two Print Release stations:

  • Press silver 'To View Your Print Jobs Press Here' button
  • Enter 'your name'
  • Touch the screen to highlight and select the job you want to print.
  • Insert your U.S. quarters, dimes, nickels (no pennies), or one-dollar bills into the vend unit attached to the PrintRelease station.
  • Press 'ok'
  • Remove your print job from the printer.
  • If you don't know, please Ask a Librarian.
