Computer commons on first floor

There are over 120 student computers in the library.

  • 24 laptops at the Reserve counter
  • 17 desktops with wired Internet, MS Office, and printing capability in the Computer Commons
  • 30 desktops in the research area to the east of the Reference Desk
  • 31 desktops in the dedicated library 827 classroom/lab
  • 9 Online Express desktops in the library lobby
  • 11 Catalog computers located near the collections on the 1st and 2nd floors

Research area, Computer Commons and 10-minute Online Express Computers:

    • Username: Your Student ID number
    • Password: Your MyGateway pin

Library Laptops:

  • Boot up (turn on) the computer. At the login screen:

Computer-Use Policy

  • The library adheres to the Fullerton College Academic Computing Technologies’ Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Library computers are for academic purposes related to Fullerton College.
    • Research Computers: Located on the first floor near the reference desk are one-hour-use computers designated for research only. No software is installed on these Internet-only computers. Two computers are dedicated to adaptive use. Priority for these terminals is for the disabled. Four rows of computers are restricted to student use and require a student login. One row of computers is restricted to the library website and do not require a student log-in.
    • Laptops: Laptops available for check-out at reserve desk. All laptops include MS Office suite. Restricted to student use, the laptops require student log-in for Wi-Fi access.
    • Computer Commons: Located behind the first floor photocopy center. Expressly for research and writing. Computers include MS Office suite. Restricted to student use. Student log-in required.
    • 10-minute Online Express Computers: Located on the column countertops in the lobby. Users may access the Internet and MS Office. Computers time-out after 10 minutes. These computers are restricted to student use and require a student log-in.
    • Catalog Computers: Dedicated to locating library books, periodicals, and media. Located in the reference shelving and interspersed throughout the second floor of the library. Restricted to the library website. Student log-in not required.
  • Playing games, using social media for recreational purposes, and viewing inappropriate material are not allowed on library computers.
  • There is a one-hour time limit at the research stations east of the reference desk and a ten-minute time limit at the e-mail express computers near the library entry.
  • No software may be installed on library computers. Students needing to install textbook software or CDs should use the campus computer labs.
  • No DVD viewing on library computers. Please use ’library TV/DVD units.
  • Headsets must be used for sound files.
  • Student IDs will be recorded for students who violate policy. Subsequent violations will result in referral to the dean for disciplinary action.
  • Users making reproductions of copyrighted material in violation of the U.S. copyright law (Title 17 U.S. Code) are liable for infringement.

General Printing Information

  • All student computers in the library are set up to print from the library’s print system, except for laptops.
  • Download email attachments or Google Docs to the computer first, then open the document from the computer to print.
  • Laptop users may access the wireless network to send documents as attachments through an email account, and then print from one of the 1st floor QuickPrint computers, or, they may use wireless (WiFi) printing (site code: fcl).
  • Laptop users must email or save documents to an external drive, as all documents saved on the laptop are deleted when the computer is turned off.
  • Printing in the library is a cash system. The vend units connected to the Print Release computers accept U.S. quarters, dimes, nickels (no pennies),and one-dollar bills only .
  • Circulation Desk makes change for bills over $1.00, but not over $20.00.
  • Not all library computers have copies of commonly-used word processing software.
  • The campus computer labs have computers containing all software taught at the college.
  • Printing from the computer labs requires a print account, established at the bookstore.  The print account is not used to print in the library.

QuickPrint Computers

To print from one of the library’s two QuickPrint computers:

  • When using your personal external drive look for the silver cable attached to the computers.
  • Open your document(s) in any MS Office or Open Office software.
  • Print your job either to the BW letter or Color letter printers.
  • Enter ‘your name’ in the blue screen and ‘send to server’.
  • Proceed to a Print Release Station

Print Release Stations

To pay for and print your job from one of the library’s three Print Release stations:

  • Click on ‘Print Release Station’ button.
  • Enter ‘your name’ (this is the name you entered when you sent your job to the printer).
  • Select the job(s) you want to print.  If you sent several jobs, please print no more than two or three at a time. The vend units can accept up to $4.90.  If you have more than 49 pages, separate your pages into smaller print jobs, e.g., 1-25 pages and 26-55 pages.
  • Insert your U.S. quarters, dimes, nickels (no pennies), or one-dollar bills into the vend unit attached to the PrintRelease station.
  • Press ‘ok
  • Remove your print job from the printer.
  • If you don’t know, please Ask a Librarian.

Wi-Fi Printing

Students and staff can send documents to the library print release stations from any device connected to the Internet. Click here to upload files to print. Please note: Print jobs remain on the library print server for up to 24 hours and are then deleted.
