Remarks at 2012 Convocation:
Fullerton College Sociology Professor Angie Andrus has been an inspiration to me. I first met Professor Andrus when she put textbooks on reserve and after we spoke, she encouraged me to enroll in her marriage and family class.
I enjoyed Professor Andrus' teaching style and learned so much that I enrolled in her Sociology of Women class the next semester. In that class I learned about "herstory", not history.
I next enrolled in Professor Andrus' Gerontology class. As part of a classroom assignment, I visited a rest home in Yorba Linda where I met several elderly people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. This was a life-changing event for me; my respect for the elderly grew even more.
Professor Angie Andrus' mentoring has changed my life for the better, making me a better student, colleague, father, and person. |
