WHEN DO I CITE A SOURCE IN MLA STYLE?

FCL MLA!

  • When you use another person's idea, opinion or theory

  • When you use any facts, graphs, statistics, drawings, pictures, images, sounds, etc. or any other piece of information which you found from any source, including the Internet

  • When you use quotations or another person's actual spoken or written words

  • When you paraphrase (put into your own words) another person's spoken or written words

Your instructor will also indicate when he or she wants you to use the MLA format for your research paper. It is your responsibility to determine which citation format to use for a particular assignment.
