WHAT IS MLA FORMAT?

It is a style recommended by the Modern Language Association for preparing student research papers and scholarly manuscripts. It concerns itself with the mechanics of writing, such as punctuation and quotations, as well as the documentation of sources. MLA style has been used by colleges, universities, and instructors for nearly half a century.

There are other styles for citing resources in a research paper—including American Psychological Association (APA), Turabian, and Chicago Manual of Style—but the MLA is the most widely used format for documenting outside sources in papers.

The MLA style may at first seem complicated, but it is not.
